The Purpose:There are many reasons to produce a pictorial history book. Documenting the past while preserving archived historical photos and text in a book such as this is a commendable project in itself. Pictorial history books can also be used to commemorate the anniversary of a community, an institution, the newspaper or an event. The Production:This is the easy part. Pediment Publishing works directly with the local museum or historical society to organize the photos for the book. We will then scan and catalog all photos and associated text or captions on site. We will organize the book into segments, layout all the pages, design the cover and continue to work with the museum in regard to proofing and editing to ensure historical accuracy. The newspaper's involvement need only be to make the initial arrangements with the museum, write the brief segment intro's and foreword, and to review the final pages before printing. Naturally, you can be more involved in the production if you would like to be.
The Publicity:This part of the project relies primarily on your strength in reaching the community and promoting pre-sales of the book. Pediment Publishing will provide a collection of promotional house ads similar to the enclosed samples. The ads will be in a variety of shapes and sizes for you to use as space allows. The ads will include sample photos from the book, a brief sales pitch and an order form. Of course, you can also create your own ads if you like. In addition, we will design a promotional flyer for use in a historical society mailing, as a statement stuffer, a hand-out at community events or at your front counter. Finally, Pediment Publishing can design and publish a site on the internet so that folks can order your book on-line.
